New Release: Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba

Chronoswiss kicks off its Watches and Wonders showing with the new Open Gear ReSec Paraiba, a limited edition model with a dramatic handmade guilloch dial.Whenever I see a new Chronoswiss, I must admit that two distinct memories come to mind. Firstly, I think about seeing Chronoswiss watches from the 90s with their massive crowns and how my Dad almost bought one. My next and final recollection is far more recent. I return to recent Baselworld events, seeing the watches, and recall the evening Chronoswiss cocktail event. While those things are in the past, one thing continues on and thats Chronoswiss and some mighty fine looking watches. Today, that continues with the new Open Gear ReSec Paraiba.The Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec ParaibaThe Open Gear ReSec Paraiba uses a familiar Chronoswiss formula. That translates to a regulator set up on the dial with hours shown on a 12:00 register, center mounted minutes hand, and a retrograde seconds arc at 6:00. Power comes from the C. 301 automatic, which is a highly modified ETA 2892-2 automatic with hacking feature. The movement is on display via a screw in sapphire case back and features a CVD coated rotor. Amazingly, this ornate 44mm steel watch with partially knurled sides brings 100 meters of water resistance to the fold.While the general look may be familiar, the dial is something truly special. Chronoswiss says that its handmade guilloch dial is reminiscent of one of the worlds rarest gemstones, the Paraiba tourmaline. The colors, depending on the light, change from turquoise to dark green due to a unique CVD coating. The dial receives Super-LumiNova indices and touches of black and white to create a truly noticeable watch.Final thoughts and pricingChronoswiss will make just 50 pieces of the Open Gear ReSec Paraiba and they will retail for 9,800. Honestly, I enjoy almost all of the Chronoswiss releases. They bring funky finishes, wild colors, and something unique to the game. Sure, the watches arent inexpensive, but Ive always felt that theyre beautifully finished and, again, theyre different.
